What’s a zine?A zine, also known as a fanzine, is a self-published fan-made book, or "magazine." Our project works like a zine; as a collaborative project between artists and writers centred on Rusty Quill's podcast, The Magnus Archives.What is this project about?This project has the goal to make playing cards/ character trading cards (much like pokemon cards) of some favourite characters in each entity in the Magnus Archives. The initial idea came from a post on tumblr/ twitter (from the creator of the project, @montymayarts)Will this project be for charity or for profit?This project will be nonprofit, as The Magnus Archives is licensed as Non-Commercial.How do I stay up to date with project information?You can sign up to our mailing list if you are interested in updates like applications or pre-orders etc, or you can follow our social media accounts @tmaplayingcards (instagram, twitter, tumblr) and turn on notification. We will be posting regularly with updates, reminders, creator spotlights and WIPs etc!Will the playing cards be a physical product?No. The original plan was for them to be so, but in order to fully abide by Rusty Quill's Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial-ShareAlike 4.0 international licence, we cannot commercialise them in any way, even if that is to cover the cost of materials. The cards will be released for free in a digital format, and anybody is allowed to print and use them as they please, abiding by the same licence.When can I get them?The cards should be released in a digital format on the 1st of December!How many cards will there be?The plan is that there will be a total of 28 character cards, with entity title cards too. There will be 2 characters from each entity (excluding the extinction, since it never actually came into being in the canon). The full set will likely have around 42 cards.How will artists be compensated?Since this is a fan-run project, our team cannot compensate artists for their work with money.

ARTISTS

there are a few different artist roles available to any artists applying.you are welcome to apply to more than one artist position, or help make social media content at any point during the process of creation!we have 19 artists!

character card artists

Character Card Artists will be assigned one or more characters to make a playing card of. They will work with writers to come up with the information on their card(s), with things like special attacks, short descriptions and fun facts. After establishing their character and the character’s abilities, artists will draw an illustration of their character to go on their playing card.

entity title card artists

Entity Title Card Artists will create a single card for the front of entity-specific card packs, symbolising the entity in it’s entirety. They will also work in collaboration with their fellow artists and the creator to make the template for their entity’s character cards, featuring a unique colour scheme/ template for each entity.

social media artists

Social Media Artists will help the creator produce art or doodles to be posted on the project’s social media accounts. This may include little doodles or drawings to go alongside announcements. This is an additional voluntary role if you’d like to be even more involved in the project. If any artist wishes to share WIPs, video-processes etc at any point during the process, we will gladly share them on our official accounts with the artist’s permission, in order to share their hard work.

WRITERS

In this project, writers’ roles will mostly centre around idea making and brainstorming alongside the artists, rather than writing full pieces. Writers will help artists come up with the information included on each card, interpreting different characters and making unique power moves, short descriptions and more! Writers will also help to write descriptions of each entity for the entity packs, as well as a few other possible writing jobs along the way. Writers should be fairly active in the discord server for the project, especially at the beginning, helping any artists that may need help!There will be more ideas than finalised or formal essay or anything like that, so if that interests you, you may want to join the project!We have 2 writers!

Due to this project being a fan-project, we will abide by the same licence used by the Rusty Quill for The Magnus Archives. The TMA playing cards project is licenced under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International Licence.This means that our project will not be commercial, and will be free to access for anybody. It will be released in a digital format, and free to print for anybody who may want a physical copy. We initially wanted to make the playing cards a physical product, but we won't be able to abiding by the licence. We will instead release cards in a digital format, as well as a printable format, for anybody to access!
